Why is Success Important?
Success is individually defined, so you need to determine how you define it.
In high school, I was voted “Most Likely to Succeed.”
Looking back, I now understand that this wasn’t as much about success in life as it was about becoming wealthy.
It wasn’t until I started working with millionaires that I really got it. I saw millionaires who had amazing lives and others who had miserable lives. As a result, I was able to understand that achieving financial success is only one part of the equation.
In today’s Money Mindset Series, you will learn insight into achieving success in all areas of your life so you, too, can create a financially free life you love.
Access today’s episode, “How to Achieve Success in Life,” here:

Begin by determining what is essential to you. Examples may include:
- Spending quality time with family and friends
- Creating a financially free life you love
- Traveling the world
- Raising money for your favorite charity
- Or all the above
To measure fulfillment, satisfaction, and results in your life, you must know your target.
You can then measure your progress by determining what a win means and clarifying what you want to achieve in your life.
How to Achieve Success in 5 Steps
1. Learn from Past Mistakes
It is easier to achieve results by learning from past mistakes and focusing on what we want. Too often, people continue to rehash their mistakes, which keeps them stuck.
Understanding that your past experiences got you to this point can help you learn important lessons and let go of the past.
2. Understand Failure
There is a connection between success and failure. Significant accomplishments are built on experience – some good and others not. Understanding the relationship between failure and achievements makes it easier to recover from setbacks so you can move toward and achieve your goals.
If you need support with your money or mindset, start here:
3. Develop Good Habits
A critical factor in achieving wins in life is to form good habits. When you know what you want and develop a plan to achieve it, you can create rituals that make achieving your goal possible.
As James Clear says in Atomic Habits:
“One of the most effective things you can do to build better habits is to join a culture where your desired behavior is the normal behavior.”
4. Master Saying, “No”
To achieve our goals, we must learn to say “No” to anything that is not required for us to achieve them. When we are clear on what we want to accomplish, it is easy to let the other things go. As Warren Buffet says, “The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.”
5. Hire a Coach
While getting motivated is easy to achieve a goal, most people fail when they experience the boring and mundane activities required to bring their dream to fruition.
A coach holds you accountable and gets you back on track when you lose your way. Accountability dramatically improves the odds that you will achieve your goal.
The key to hiring the best coach is to find someone who has achieved what you want to accomplish. If you wish to lose weight, find a coach who has maintained weight loss. Or, if you want wealth, find someone who has achieved financial success.
How Do You Define Success?
Determining what a win or accomplishment means to you requires a clear picture of what that looks like and what is important to you.
One of the best definitions is in “The Strangest Secret” by Earl Nightingale. He says, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal.”
I like to paraphrase it, “Success is measuring our progress toward our goal.”
FAQs on How to Achieve Success in Life
What are the traits of high achievers?
The traits of people who achieve more wins in their overall life are a good benchmark.
Confidence
They have confidence in their ability and perform regardless of the naysayers. As a result, they do not get distracted by critics.
Focus
They are clear on what they want and focus on the activities required to achieve it. As a result, they stay on track and consistently complete high-value activities.
Passion
Truly fulfilled people enjoy their life. They do what they love and hang out with people who motivate and inspire them.
Goal Obsessed
High achievers know how to set goals and stick to them until they achieve them.
They set goals that are crazy and impossible by most people’s standards.. But in their heart of hearts, their seemingly impossible goal is their passion, desire, and even obsession.
Balance
They determine what a balanced life looks like and then make it a reality in their life. A balanced life could be 70% work and 30% personal or 50-50. The key is knowing what the right mix for them is. As a result of determining your ideal balance between work and life, you will be more fulfilled and enjoy your life more.
Mental Toughness
High achievers share traits, including perseverance and mental toughness. Mental toughness refers to the resilience to carry on and continue trying even in the face of obstacles. A healthy mindset also allows you to let go of the fear of failure. As a result, you can instead focus on what you want.

People with mental strength in their lives see problems and challenges as opportunities to achieve their goals. They don’t give up, even when faced with boulders on their path. Instead, they focus on what they can control and let the other stuff go.
How to achieve success by improving your mental toughness
1. Trust the Opportunity
Regardless of what you face, look for the opportunity and know it will help you achieve what you desire.
2. Seek Support and Learn from Your Mistakes
Learning from your mistakes is critical. Creating a support team will also help you when the going gets tough.
3. Set Goals to Achieve Them
Stating goals in “I am” or “I (active verb)” helps you program them into your subconscious mind. Affirming goals will help you stay focused on your target, not the obstacles you encounter.
A common characteristic high achievers share is a “Can-do, Will-do” attitude. They don’t complain, blame, or get someone else to do the heavy lifting. They do their part and expect others to do theirs.
Is the goal happiness or something else?
If happiness is difficult for you to define, consider focusing on fulfillment. List out the different roles in your life, and then determine what you need to achieve in each area of your life to feel fulfilled.
By focusing on living a fulfilled life versus being happy, many find it is easier to measure their progress toward goals.

4 Tips on How to Achieve Success
1. Envision What You Want
The first step is to know what you want. Doing this helps you define your desired outcome, giving you a better chance of achieving it.
2. Create a Plan
The ideal plan includes a formula to achieve your desired results. The winning formula contains three parts:
Foundation (inner game)
Your inner game consists of setting goals, elevating your Worth Barometer, visualizing your accomplishments, programming your mind, removing abundance and money blocks, calming your mind, and focusing your attention, etc.
The first step to creating a solid foundation is to create a vision of what you want to accomplish in your life.
Strategy (game plan)
This is the plan you can execute to make success a reality. A business strategy includes identifying your ideal client, researching to learn everything about them, and lead generation strategies to attract them.
A wealth strategy includes creating a budget, determining your income models, and identifying your wealth-building plan.
Execution (outer game)
This is the consistent action you take.
The best outcomes occur when you combine all these elements of the formula.
3. Set and Prioritize Goals
Achieving a few crucial goals is much better than setting a bunch and accomplishing none. The key is to determine what you want and then create plans for each objective you want to achieve.
4. Avoid Silver Bullets
Instead of buying lottery tickets in hopes of winning the jackpot, create a plan and start investing your money for retirement.
While silver bullets trigger a dopamine rush, they wreak havoc on your ability to achieve your long-term goals. Fulfilled millionaires and wealthy people understand this principle and avoid silver bullets.
5. Get Sleep
While many people share the power of arising at 5 AM, wealthy, successful people focus on getting to bed earlier. The goal is to get 7 to 8 1/2 hours of sleep each night. Studies show that you sleep better if you turn off electronics 60 minutes before bed. As a result of getting more sleep, you will be more alert, focused, and able to get more done.
Final thoughts on how to achieve success in life
The key to success comes down to you and what you choose to do and not do.
There are so many insights I could share on how to achieve success, but the bottom line is you must determine what it means to you and then do the work required to achieve your goal.
