Insights on How to Become More Productive
While most people want to get more done, successful people understand that the key is to get clear on what you want to accomplish. And then, prioritize the steps you need to complete to make your dream a reality.
Let’s review what successful people do to become more productive.
1. Get Clarity
The first step to achieving your goals is determining what you want to achieve.
Take time to determine where you want to live, travel, and do if money were not an issue. Doing this will help motivate you to become more productive.
2. Laser Focus
Focus requires that you train your mind to stay on task and not get distracted.
Most millionaires laser focus and complete their essential activities. Many practice mindfulness and daily meditation to help enhance their concentration.
Tracking your time spent and completing one task at a time is helpful. Multi-tasking decreases productivity levels and increases the amount of time to complete it.
Focused Intervals with the Pomodoro Technique
The Pomodoro Technique is a method to manage your time better. It breaks down tasks to improve productivity and focus.
Here is how to use the Pomodoro Technique:
- Select a task you want to complete.
- Set a timer for 20 minutes (this interval is known as a “Pomodoro”).
- Laser focus on the task for the interval.
- Take a short break.
- Start another Pomodoro interval.
While many people effectively use the Pomodoro technique, other research shows that Power Hours (which I prefer and is discussed below) are more effective because you have a longer work period and fewer breaks.
Regardless of which strategy works best for you, the urgency created by the time constraint often boosts productivity and can help to maintain momentum.
3. Set Clear Goals
In this step, define specific objectives you want to achieve with your business, life, and money.
One of the most powerful productivity hacks to achieve your goal includes identifying and completing high-value activities (HVAs) and income-producing activities (IPAs).
HVAs and IPAs are the critical actions you need to take to achieve your goal.
Successful millionaires focus on high-value activities (HVAs) in all areas of their lives, not just money. For example, they include goals in the areas of family, spirituality, health, personal life, career, relationships, community, etc.
They delegate LVAs (low-value activities) and eliminate NVAs (non-value activities).
“Excuse” is not a word in their vocabulary. Mastering this insight requires commitment, focus, and an understanding that success is boring and mundane.
Next, write out your affirmative goals in an “I am” or “I (active verb)” format. For example, you would state your financial goal regarding income as “I earn $200,000 in (year)” and “I am divinely healthy.”
Then, identify one or two HVAs and IPAs you must complete consistently to achieve your goal.
For example:
Sample Goal
I earn $100,000 per year with ease.
HVAs
I invest my retirement account (amount) in (type of plan).
I work a side job at (name of business) to supplement my income.
Goal
I am divinely healthy.
HVAs
I drink my green protein shake each morning.
I exercise each day from 6-7 AM.
Identifying and consistently completing HVAs are critical because they allow you to achieve your heart’s desire.
4. Manage Time and Energy
It is crucial to schedule HVAs and IPAs at times of day when your energy is high.
Power hours are essential to increase your money, life, and business productivity.
A power hour is 50-70 minutes of laser focus completing a high-value activity. They are followed by a 5-7 minute power break. The next step is to set your intention for the next power hour.
Some people get more done with time-blocking and task batching.
5. Remove Distractions
Minimizing distractions and interruptions and removing clutter from your environment is essential. Schedule a date to give away anything you haven’t used in the last six months.
Focusing on cleaning one room at a time can be helpful.
6. Improve Organizational Skills
Productivity tools such as calendars, to-do lists, and task management apps can be helpful.
Establish routines and habits to streamline workflows and regularly review and adjust organizational systems for efficiency.
7. Maintain Work-Life and Money Balance
Schedule regular breaks to prevent burnout and maintain energy levels. Set boundaries between work and personal life to avoid overworking. Prioritize self-care activities such as exercise, hobbies, and time with loved ones.
