Benefits of the Turmeric
Dried turmeric, a bright yellow spice, has been valued for its medicinal properties for centuries.
It is commonly used in Indian cuisine for its flavor. In Chinese medicine, it is used for its mystical healing properties. The benefits of golden turmeric tea are as follows.
Curcumin, found in turmeric, is known for its ability to reduce chronic inflammation. Consuming a turmeric drink can help drastically reduce these effects.
Turmeric also contains high levels of antioxidants, which can help protect your cells from damage. Increased levels of antioxidants can help to prevent chronic disease and to slow down the aging process. This is helpful to maintain skin that looks young and fresh.
Turmeric can also help support heart health. Curcumin helps dilate blood vessels, increasing blood flow and reducing LDL (bad cholesterol) levels in the bloodstream.
When curcumin reaches the digestive tract, it helps produce bile, a necessary fluid for the digestion of fats. Bile production is also linked to helping symptoms of indigestion and bloating.
Some research suggests that curcumin’s antioxidizing properties may help against brain-degenerating diseases such as Alzheimer’s. You only get one brain, so you may as well take care of it.
Finally, turmeric is readily available on the shelf at many grocery stores, so it won’t be hard to find it.
How to Make Your Own Turmeric Drink:
Begin by gathering your ingredients; for this recipe, you will need the following:
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric powder
- 1-2 teaspoons honey/maple syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- A pinch of black pepper (to help with curcumin absorption)
- 1-2 cups of milk (which we’ll turn into golden milk!) Many people use milk alternatives like oat, almond, or coconut.
Begin by heating the milk over medium heat in a small saucepan; avoid boiling.
Next, add the turmeric, cinnamon, and a dash of black pepper into the milk and stir well until the mixture is combined. You will know the mix is ready when the powder flakes have disappeared entirely into the liquid.
Then, add your choice of sweetener, such as coconut sugar, honey, or monk fruit, to the saucepan and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
As soon as the mixture has turned to a yellow color, pour the mix through a strainer and enjoy!
Turmeric drink also goes well with a squeeze of lemon juice for added vitamin C. Turmeric milk is best enjoyed warm, but some enjoy it cold.

A History of Turmeric
People discovered turmeric in Southern Asia, particularly in India, where they have cultivated it for nearly 4,000 years. The process of collecting turmeric has remained the same for centuries: the rhizomes of the turmeric plant are taken, put in boiling water, dried, and ground into a yellow powder. People first used it as a dye for its vibrant yellow color before they discovered its medicinal properties.
Later, when ingested, turmeric was discovered to positively affect the immune system. Since then, turmeric has been utilized for its medicinal properties for centuries. It was used to cure a variety of ailments, including respiratory issues, skin conditions, and inflammatory diseases.
Religious and Cultural Aspects
Turmeric also holds a religious and cultural significance to this day in South Asian countries such as India. It was and still is commonly used for religious ceremonies, rituals, and festivals. In the Hindu culture, turmeric is commonly associated with fertility, prosperity, and purity. Turmeric is often used as part of Hindu wedding rituals because it is thought to help the newlywed couple start their marriage on the right foot.
Turmeric’s popularity quickly spread to cover far more than just southern Asia, where it was discovered. After the construction of the Silk Road, several items from all across Afro-Eurasia (including turmeric) were spread around to other parts of the continent, reaching Northern India, the Middle East, and eventually all the way to Europe.

Turmeric quickly became a fundamental spice in various cuisines in these areas because of its flavor and medicinal properties. It was used not only as a spice but also as a food preservative, which made industrializing nations quickly turn to producing turmeric as an export.
In the 20th century, scientists began to study the compounds in turmeric, where they found curcumin, the part of turmeric that gives it its famed medicinal properties.
Today, turmeric is still used in cooking and medicine but has also moved to various other industries, including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and herbal supplements.
You can get turmeric in many forms, including powder, capsules, extracts, and essential oils.
Assuming you don’t have hours to cook, the Turmeric Drink is simple and easy to incorporate into any lifestyle.
